Like so many of you, I have been troubled by the evil going on in our world, especially the most recent news from New York.
Questions running through my mind
- How did this happen?
- Do they really think this is a good thing?
- Where have we gone wrong?
- What is this world coming to?
The main question that hit me the hardest was this:
What are we as Believers, followers of Jesus Christ, going to do about it?
I will be honest and say for me, I normally make a post on social media and go on this long spill of how wrong and evil the world is.
After that….nothing…..nothing at all…….
If we want to see a change in the world, then it is time we actually BE the change.
I’m not saying posting on social media is wrong. We all have the right to voice our opinion and share what is on our heart. Those posts can give encouragement to someone reading them.
I am saying it is time we take it to the next level. What can we do after that? What can we do to make a change in this world and actually be the light we are called to be?
Here’s the deal…of course darkness is running rampant right now in our country…the silent majority is just that..silent.
We sit in our comfortable homes and get disgusted and heartbroken over the happenings going on in our country, and then, we just move on with our lives. The enemy is not scared of us because he thinks that we will continue to sit.
We were not put here on this world to live our own lives and focus on ourselves. We were not put here to just sit…
God put us here for two things: To be Salt and Light.
How do we do that you ask? We use the tools that He has given us.
He has given all of us gifts and talents to go and be the Salt and the Light to this dying world.
It doesn’t matter our age, it doesn’t matter if we think it is something big or small…if we are still on this earth breathing, then He still has us on a mission.
Your mission field may be to children, to Wall Street, to a congregation, to a nursing home, to a concert hall with thousands, in a stadium, in a political office, Wal-Mart, driving local transportation, serving in a soup kitchen, going to school, performing brain surgery, DHR, coaching, running a boutique….this list could go on and on and on.
Scripture tells us:
“In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:16
“The light shines in the darkness and the darkness has not overcome it.” John 1:5
“But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.” 1 Peter 2:9
“If my people who are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” 2 Chronicles 7:14
“Therefore GO and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Matt. 28:19-20
It is time for us to GO and SHINE the light of Jesus inside of us. His light overcomes the darkness. With Him, we have nothing to fear.
It is time for us to PRAY and DECLARE His praises. We have stopped praying and declaring His praises. We haven’t just become silent to the world but we have gotten silent with our Father. He wants to hear from us. He longs for a relationship with us. He tells us to seek Him and call out to Him.
Getting on our knees praying in unity for God to heal our land may just be the most powerful thing we can do.
Before we can pray for that, we must also do what the above scripture says and humble ourselves and repent. We have all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. Whether we like it or not, God is not putting any levels on sin. Sin is sin in His eyes. We must turn and repent as we pray for the world to do the same.
Will it be different this time?
Will we get on our knees in prayer?
Will we go be the change this world needs?
Will we teach the generations coming how to live for Jesus and speak up for the truth?
Will we use the tools and gifts God gave us or will we keep sitting on the sidelines?
Will we be consumed by fear or will we punch fear in the throat and take steps of faith?
Will we continue to stay in our comfort zones or go out into the uncomfortable where change and miracles happen?
Will we keep hiding under a bushel?
Will we let our lights shine?
